Marchmont and Sciennes are neighbourhoods immediately to the South of Edinburgh’s city centre and adjacent to The Meadows open green space. The areas are characterised by Victorian tenement blocks and row houses, with an intergenerational diversity of residents who are well-served by local shops, cafes/restaurants and other businesses.
Under the Land Reform Act (2003), community bodies such as MSDT must comprise residents of a well defined geographic area, and their activities must be for the benefit of that community. Currently, this area is as defined below.
Residents of this community who are eligible to vote in local elections are eligible for ordinary membership of the Trust. Anyone living outside this area can become an associate member.
The MSDT community area currently comprises the coloured zone on this map. The boundary was previously limited to the streets immediately surrounding the Sick Kids site, but was reviewed by MSDT members in October 2017 and was expanded to the area now shown. It can change again in the future if members deem it appropriate.
